Mexicola

1 part José Cuervo Tequila
2 parts Coca-Cola
Serve over ice

You want to go on vacation, and you're all excited about the possibilities. Russia? France? Peru? Those would be fantastic! The Caribbean? Australia? Hawai'i? Hell yeah!

Then you look at your finances and you start scaling back. Florida? Hm. California? Hm. Ah well, you say to yourself in resignation … I can always go to Mexico.

And so it is with Mexicola, which is what happens when you want to go on vacation from your brain, but the resources at hand are limited to a nearly-empty bottle of Tequila and a few cans of Coca-Cola. Whether this recipe originated in Mexico, or a fraternity house, I am not sure, but I would say it's a clear last resort.

The pungent smell of the Tequila is enough to make you pause reflexively before tasting … it's not how you normally would consume either of these two beverages. After a few sips, though, it starts to define itself and seem overall less pathetic. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's any good, but it does the job, if fulfilling only the bare minimum requirements.

The sad thing is, a Mexico vacation, while kind of low-rent, is inevitably fun … blue water, white sand, froofy drinks, etc. But Mexicola is more like a quick trip over the Texas border to Ciudád Juaréz, whereupon you find that all the bordellos are closed, and then you get stung by a scorpion.
