Maureen McCormick
When You Get a Little Lonely
(Phantom Hill 55001)

Just be glad I did your work for you and spared you the trouble of having to hear this piece of dogshit. Maureen McCormick turns in a frustratingly solid vocal performance in a New Nashville setting, offering a limp version of what is already pretty lousy music to begin with.

And while she sounds less anemic than she did on her post-"Brady Bunch" recordings, I'd actually prefer those because at least there's some comic relief.

With When You Get a Little Lonely, you just sit there waiting for a joke that never arrives. The band is as tight and as full of clichés as the bar band at your local line-dancing club, and the lyrics are just bad. Don't mistake me, this is not that "good" brand of bad. This is, as Ron Banks would say, "truly bad."

If only she had been a worse vocalist, or chosen one really misguided song to cover (the worst choice here is Buddy Holly's "Oh Boy"-sure it's bad, but come on, give me some real misery to make it worth my while, try "Going to California").

Ick, this is a real piece of fuck.
