Linda Evans
You Control Me
(Ariola 50045)

Not that Linda Evans. This Linda Evans is a standard-issue soul disco diva in the Gloria Gaynor mold, as opposed to a soft-focus primetime soap star. In both cases, the claim to fame is dubious. That Linda Evans was married to semi-famous photographer John Derek, this one is produced by legendary session bassist James Jamerson. Neither has left behind an interesting body of work. Both are competent at best, and substantially propped up by their surroundings (in the case of that Linda Evans, the presence of John Forsythe, with this Linda Evans, a super-slick R&B production team). Both are likely to have been enjoyed primarily by drag queens.

Nothing too memorable here: "You Got Me Dreaming," "The Last Goodbye," "I've Been Searching," "Don't You Need" – standard-issue titles with assembly line '79 disco melodies and arrangements. Post-Philly disco filler, interesting (perhaps) if you really love Earth, Wind, and Fire, whose horn section appears on here. Jeff Porcaro also appears on here, but I think he was on every album that came out in 1979. A few nice breaks, otherwise as flatly unmemorable as every line of dialogue the other Linda Evans has ever intoned.
