Bourbon Street
5th Avenue between 6th and 8th Street, Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico

I think this place also serves food, but I stopped in solely for mojitos (rum, lime, and mint … it's fucking delicious, amigo). The walls are decked with photographs seemingly all culled from 90s-era Rolling Stone magazines (Tori Amos, Pam Anderson, Kurt Cobain, Britney Spears, etc, etc), and they play cool chillout music also from the late 90s/early 00s (Groove Armada's always-splendid "Superstylin'" stood out).

It was the only place on Playa del Carmen that felt anything like cool. It was not at all touristy, and the mojitos were terrifico. The waitress noticed our bag of Mexican candy and told us which was her favorite (it was Pulparindo). We should have tipped her our Pulparindo in addition to the standard cash, but come on, it was our candy, so shouldn't we enjoy it?!
