The Gift (2001)
Directed by Sam Raimi

I didn't know anything about this film before I saw it, but was pleasantly surprised to discover that J.K Simmons was the star. The masterful artist once again turns in a supreme performance, as the beleaguered sheriff of a small town in the South that has been rattled by a mysterious disappearance. When the young wife of Greg Kinnear goes missing, it is up to J.K. Simmons to head up the investigation. At first he turns up no leads, in fact he is at a dead end, but he reluctantly visits the town psychic to get some help—which he gets more than a mouthful of (?).

Katie Holmes, whose performance is awful despite the appearance of both of her breasts, is found in a pond, dead, and J.K. Simmons puts down his donuts to put the killer behind bars. But who is the killer? It seems to be the wife-beating Keanu Reeves. But is it really him? Sheriff Simmons follows a hot trail with twists and turns that keep you riveted up to the chilling ending, but rest assured, he gets his man.

This movie is a must-see for any J.K Simmons fan. Aside from him, though, the movie's not very good.
